Ranikhet

Ranikhet is a cosy hill station located at a height of 1829 metres. Ranikhet is centrally located i.e. it is 56 km from Nainital, 46 km from Almora and 60 km from Kausani. Ranikhet literally means Queen’s meadow. Every year thousands of tourists come here on leisure and honeymoon trips. This place is naturally beautiful and scenic. On a clear day, one can see the beautiful Himalayan ranges from here. The forests are lush green filled with pine trees. Ranikhet is very pleasant in summers and extremely cold during winters. Most often it snows in the months from December to February.

There is a golf course just at the entrance of the town on the Almora – Kausani route. As it is a cantonment area it is well maintained by the army. The main market of Ranikhet is located on either side of the 1.5-2.0 km long road. The market is not very developed. It has small shops of necessary items, medical stores, some restaurants and budget type hotels. One can stroll on this road and enjoy the Himalayas view from various angles. The mall road of Ranikhet lies parallel to the market road. It passes through the well-maintained cantonment area & military hospital and takes you to the famous Chaubatia Gardens. One can see many fruit trees like apple, apricot, peach trees as well as trees like walnut, pine nut, chestnut and almonds in Chaubatia. You can buy jams, squashes of fruits and honey without any added preservatives from here.

The Army Museum has various weapons and flags that had been captured during various wars. You can also visit the Jhula Devi Temple where people come to fulfil their wishes. If you take a few steps from here you will reach the Rama Mandir. Here students are taught Vedas and modern mathematics.

All types of hotels from budget to luxury are available in Ranikhet. Budget hotels are available in the market area while some heritage hotels are located on the road going to Chaubatia. There are some good resorts available on the Almora road also at some distance.
